U.S. women edge Germany in SheBelieves Cup

CHESTER, Pennsylvania -- The United States women’s national team opened its 2017 campaign with a 1-0 win over Germany in the SheBelieves Cup on Wednesday before 16,318 fans at Talen Energy Stadium.

The game’s only goal came 56th minute, when Lynn Williams scored after Christen Press' shot hit the crossbar and Tobin Heath's follow up was blocked by a German defender.

France defeated England, 2-1, in the opening match of the doubleheader.

The U.S. will next face England on March 4 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
