CHICAGO – United States youth international forward Josh Sargent was among 21 players called into U.S. national team training camp Tuesday for an international friendly at Portugal on November 14.
The 17-year-old Sargent was a key member of the American squads that progressed from the group stages at this year’s FIFA Under-17 and U-20 World Cups, scoring a total of seven goals across both competitions.
He was one of five uncapped players summoned by acting head coach Dave Sarachan, joining goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez (FC Dallas), defender Cameron Carter-Vickers (Sheffield United), as well as midfielders Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls) and Weston McKennie (Schalke).
“With this particular roster and the availability of players, it was a great opportunity to bring Josh,” Sarachan commented. “He’s obviously impressed at both youth World Cups this year and so this camp gives us a chance to give a first look to a young player we think will have a bright future in the national team program.”
Sargent also netted five goals in helping the U.S. capture the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship title earlier this year.
