U.S. to host Guatemala in July friendly

CHICAGO - The United States will face confederation rival Guatemala on July 5 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego in the team's only tune-up before the start of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, U.S. Soccer announced Saturday.

The U.S., which has 13 wins, six draws and four losses in 23 all-time meetings against the Chapines, is seeking its fifth Gold Cup title.

"This is a very important opportunity for us to get in a good game before the start of the Gold Cup," said U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. "It is our goal to win the tournament, and the chance to play Guatemala will be good preparation for our group. We are thrilled to get back to San Diego which has such an outstanding soccer tradition."

The U.S. has never lost to the Guatemala at home (11-1-0). They last met in October during semifinal round of World Cup Qualifying for Brazil 2014 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Americans rallied for a 3-1 victory after falling behind on an early goal by Carlos Ruiz. Carlos Bocanegra, who is on the preliminary Gold Cup roster, leveled in the 10th minute, before Clint Dempsey struck for a brace.
