U.S., Panama U20s to meet in friendlies

CHICAGO -- The U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team announced Tuesday that it will hold a training camp from January 14-22 in Puebla, Mexico. During the camp, the U.S. will face Panama two times, on Jan. 19 and Jan. 21. The time and location for the matches have yet to be determined.

Puebla, Mexico, is the site of the finals of the 2013 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship, which will be held February 18-March 3. The U.S. was drawn into Group A with Costa Rica and Haiti, while Panama will meet Jamaica and Puerto Rico in Group C.

The Americans closed out 2012 on December 21 with a 4-0 victory against Venezuela in a closed-door match at FIU Soccer Complex in Miami. Jose Villarreal, Luis Gil, Mario Rodriguez and Daniel Metzger all tallied in the triumph.

The trip to Puebla will be the second foreign tour for the Central Americans, who won three of four games in a friendly tournament played in Iquitos, Peru, late last year.
