GUWAHATI, India – Despite a 5-1 loss to France (3W-0D-0L, 9 points) on Saturday at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Honduras (1-0-2, 3) advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The Catrachos finished behind the Group E topping French and runner-up Japan (1-1-1, 4) to complete first-stage play as one of the best third-place teams.

Carlos Mejia gave the CONCACAF side a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, when he received a pass from the tumbling Patrick Palacios in the left side of the box and fired a left-footed shot through the legs of goalkeeper Yahia Fofana from three-yards out.

Four minutes later, Wilson Isidor leveled as France started a string of five unanswered goals.

France went ahead to stay in the 23rd minute thanks to a cool finish by Alexis Flips off Isidor’s right-sided cross.

Flips made it 3-0 in the 64th minute, striking at the doorstep after Claudio Gomes’attempt with outside of his right foot fell inches short of crossing the line.

Amine Gouiri – the tournament’s top scorer -- struck for his fifth of the competition in the 86th minute, before Yacine Adli’s free kick in the 90’+6 minute punctuated the scoreline.
