BOGOTA, Colombia – Less than two months after capturing the 2016 Copa Libertadores Feminina title with Paraguay’s Sportivo Limpeño, Trinidad & Tobago international goalkeeper Kimika Forbes is ready for another South American adventure.

The 26-year-old secured last week a contract with Colombia’s Independiente Santa Fe and is already taking part in preseason training ahead of the inaugural campaign for the country’s new professional league -- the Liga Aguila Femenina

"I have been treated very well, so far I am adapting to the climate change, but the reward is a pleasant experience that I intend to make the most of,” Forbes said on the club’s official website.

Goalkeeper coach Julio Veloza is pleased that Forbes is in the squad and believes her presence will benefit rising star Allyson Ballesteros, just 17-years-old.

"[Kimika] is a World Cup goalkeeper, who has taken pride in competing against the world's best in women's football,” said Veloza. “She has been one-on-one against Alex Morgan, who is a great player, so that's a general growth for the whole group.”

Forbes, who signed a one-year deal, is excited by the prospect of continuing her career during a historic time for women’s football in Colombia.

“It feels great to secure a second contract in South America particularly with this being a new league in Colombia,” Forbes told TTFA Media. “I have a lot to offer the team and hopefully I can help them with my winning mentality and commitment to the game. I am really anxious for the new season ahead.

“The experience I gained at Limpeno has helped me a great deal and I’m just thankful for everything right now and hopefully I can continue to perform at a high level and take that form to the national team when the time comes.”

The Liga Aguila Femenina will run from February to June.
