MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica -- An early strike by Ataullah Guerra was all Trinidad & Tobago needed to defeat host Jamaica, 1-0, in an international friendly on Friday at Catherine Hall Stadium.

The Caribbean powers will meet again on Tuesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

In the fifth minute, Andre Boucaud played Kenwyne Jones behind the Jamaican defense.  Goalkeeper Richard McCallum could not hold on to the Stoke City forward’s subsequent shot and the lurking Guerra ran on to power home off the underside off the crossbar for the game’s only goal.

Omar Daley nearly leveled six minutes later, but the Minnesota United midfielder agonizingly punched his shot high from six yards.

After the break, the introduction of Montego Bay United midfielder Jermaine Woozencroft and 17-year-old D.C. United striker Michael Seaton provided Jamaica with a lift on the offensive end.

The Trinidadians were forced to defend further back as the host pressed for the equalizer.

Defender Daneil Cyrus also cleared a Seaton attempt off the line in the closing ten minutes.

Jamaica head coach Winfried Schafer lamented his team’s lack of scoring touch, which has carried over from World Cup Qualifying.

“We know what our problem is, we are not scoring,” he told reporters after the game.  “That is the problem in Jamaica and we must work at this in training.”

The win was Trinidad’s first over its regional rival since May 28, 2001.
