MEXICO CITY -- Jurgen Damm netted twice to propel Tigres into the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League semifinals after a 3-0 victory over host Pumas on Wednesday at the Estadio Universitario Olimpico.

UANL, which also got a goal from Luis Quiñones, captured the quarterfinal series 4-1 on aggregate.

The visitor did pay a price in victory, seeing Damian Alvarez exit with a 25th-minute injury and Juninho -- provider of Damm’s first goal -- depart 14 minutes into the second half following a nasty slip.

Pumas was stopped short of a third semifinal appearance after losing to a fellow Liga MX side for a fifth time in eight SCCL matches.

After a relatively uneventful opening half-hour, Tigres went ahead in the 33rd minute, when Damm slipped into some open space near the penalty spot. Juninho won the ball from a Pumas midfielder on the right wing and spotted Damm with a perfect looping cross from the right. The 24-year-old winger chested it down with his first touch and thumped a right-footed scissor kick with his second into the bottom left corner for his second career SCCL goal.

Nicolas Castillo missed a pair of golden opportunities to level the match early in the second half, striking the right elbow of the crossbar in the 50th minute and seeing his breakaway attempt denied by Hugo Ayala’s last-second challenge six minutes later.

Nine minutes after that, Damm gave Tigres a crucial second away goal, tucking a finish into an empty net after a Pumas defender slipped to put Jesus Dueñas alone into space.

As Pumas pushed for goals, Quiñones completed the scoring off an 87th-minute counterattack. Dueñas delivered a pass from the right wing that Quiñones took into the left of the side, before shooting through a trio of defenders and into the right of the net from 12-yards out.

In the semifinals, Tigres will face the winner of the New York Red Bulls-Vancouver Whitecaps series, which concludes Thursday.
