Tigres earned a 1-1 draw at Necaxa thanks to a Francisco Meza goal, while Pachuca narrowly fell 1-0 at Santos. CONCACAF.com takes a look at the weekend action involving the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League finalists.

     Nexaca 1, Tigres 1

Three days after clinching a spot in the 2016/17Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League final for the second consecutive year, 12th-place Tigres (3W-4D-5L) picked up a 1-1 draw at Necaxa on Saturday. Francisco Meza’s 16th-minute goal gave U.A.N.L an early lead, but Jairo Gonzalez struck with a free kick just three minutes before halftime to even the score.

Tigres had a number of chances to regain the lead in the second half, but Javier Aquino (65’) and Andre-Pierre Gignac (85’) were denied by the excellent Necaxa goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero.

Next up for Tigres: April 11, 2017 – home v Guadalajara

     Santos 1, Pachuca 0

Pachuca’s (5W-2D-4L) return to Liga MX play following their thrilling 4-3 aggregate triumph over FC Dallas in the SCCL semifinals ended with a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Santos on Sunday. The result extended the Tuzos’ winless streak in league play to three matches (0-1-2).

Despite a taxing Tuesday encounter against Dallas, Pachuca came out the more energetic of the two sides and SCCL leading scorer Hirving Lozano (8 goals) had several opportunities, but was unable to finish. Just when it looked like the teams would head to the halftime locker room scoreless, Djaniny Tavares struck for the host in what would be the game’s lone goal.

Things were further complicated for eighth-place Pachuca in the 66th minute, when Lozano was sent off, allowing Santos to close out the encounter.
