Surinam and Anguilla post wins in Women's U-20

Teams from Anguilla and Surinam gained victories in the opening games of Group B of Caribbean qualifying for the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 tournament.

In Group B, being played in Surinam's Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium, Anguilla inflicted a 5:2 defeat on Netherlands Antilles. The Netherlands Antilles had taken an early lead on four minutes with a goal from Stephany van Thijs but goals from Karisa Lake (34th minute) and Jaynelle Lake (41) saw Anguilla end the first half with a 2:1 advantage.

In second half play Jaynelle Lake struck again with her second, Anguilla's third, on 75th minutes before Stephanie Erkelens pulled a goal back for Netherlands Antilles almost immediately (77) making the score 3:2. Two further late strikes by Jaynelle Lake (85th, 89th) gave her a personal tally of four goals and a 5:2 victory for the Anguillan team.

In the group's second game hosts, Surinam, earned a 4:1 victory over visiting Dominica. Early goals from Daniella Rolder (10th minute) and Emaline Lockhart (24th) for Surinam and Dominica respectively, left the game all square at half time but Surinam sealed victory through a second half hatrick of goals from Lugretia Hasselnook (53rd, 56th, 80th).

The next games in the four-team Group B will see Netherlands Antilles take on Dominica and Anguilla face the hosts, Surinam, on 22 September. Games on 24 September conclude Group B play with the winner joining the victors of Group A (Trinidad and Tobago), Group C and Group D in a final quadrangular tournament to take place in Trinidad and Tobago from 12-16 November.
