SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Following the second day of group-stage play in the 2016 UNCAF Inter-Club Championship, the four semifinalists were decided, while two sides were eliminated.
Universidad and UNIFUT launched their campaigns Wednesday with wins at the Estadio Ernesto Rohrmoser, allowing early entry into the final four. As a result, two idle participants -- Saprissa and Moravia – also earned places in the semifinals. Pares and UNAN will return home with no points in four games between them.
Group play concludes Thursday with semifinal seeding providing the motivation for a quartet of teams with unblemished records.

Dulce Aguilar (9’) and Waleska Amaya (63’) each scored a goal as Universidad held off Pares, 2-1. Niurka Oliva, who netted twice for Guatemala at the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship earlier this year, tried to rally the Guatemalan runner-up with a 69th minute goal. With 1W-0D-0L records, Universidad and Saprissa -- a 4-0 winner over Pares a day earlier – will progress to the semifinals.

With a 1-0 win over UNAN, UNIFUT sealed a semifinal place, as did idle Moravia. The Nicaraguans’ participation in the tournament came to an end after two losses in as many games. Marilyn Rivera netted the only goal in the 30th minute. Six UNIFUT starters were also on Guatemala’s roster for the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship earlier year, including 16-year-old defender Kellin Mayen.
