    Season Summary

After capturing the 2017 Liga MX Clausura title, Guadalajara did not secure a spot in the 2017 Apertura playoffs, finishing 13th in the regular-season standings.  Chivas desperately missed star forward Alan Pulido, who broke his right arm playing for Mexico in a pre-Gold Cup friendly against Paraguay on July 1, 2017.

    Season Highlight

It was a nightmare of a start to the 2017 Apertura as Guadalajara went without a win in the first seven matches, but it ended the season much stronger, winning three of the last four games.

    Key Player: Rodolfo Pizarro

In the 2017 Apertura, Pizarro equaled his single-season best mark with five goals to finish as the team’s scoring leader.  The 23-year-old also first accomplished the feat in the 2016 Clausura while playing for Pachuca.

Player to Watch in 2018: Ronaldo Cisneros

After three seasons at Santos, Cisneros was acquired by Guadalajara earlier this month.  The 20-year-old has yet to score in nine career Liga MX matches, but he earned the Golden Boot Award as the 2017 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship’s top scorer (6 goals).  At the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, Cisneros found the back of the net twice.

    Fabulous Facts

Remarkably, Guadalajara played better away than at its Estadio Akron.  In fact, three of the club’s four wins in the 2017 Apertura (2-0 v Leon, 3-1 v Pachuca, 3-2 v Veracruz) came on the road.

    SCCL Round of 16 Outlook

Guadalajara will be looking to put the Apertura season in the rearview mirror, when it meets the Dominican Republic’s Cibao FC in a 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 series.  In their only previous SCCL appearance (2012/13), Chivas did not advance beyond the group stage.
