SAN NICOLAS DE LOS GARZA, Mexico – With a place in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League final secured, Tigres now appears to be finding its stride in the 2017 Liga MX Clausura.

On Tuesday, UANL defeated second-place Guadalajara, 3-0, and climbed into 11th place, three spots off a postseason berth with four matches left on the schedule.

Midfielder Jesus Dueñas, whose 73rd-minute goal was bookended by a pair of Andre-Pierre Gignac strikes, says that Tigres wants to replicate its SCCL form in domestic-league play.

“We go out in each match to get the three points,” said the 28-year-old. “The team is armed to fight for titles and nothing more than to compete. We did it in the Champions League…we are in the final…and there are four finals remaining [in Liga MX] in which we want to get the 12 points that are left, so that a Liguilla possibility is given to us.”

Tuesday’s contest was the second in a stretch of seven games over the course of 21 days, including both legs of the SCCL final that opens on April 18 against visiting Pachuca.

In addition, Tigres’ next three Clausura matches are all against teams currently in the table’s top eight -- Pumas, Monterrey and Club Tijuana.

“We have to keep doing the same or better than what we did today against a great team that was in second place,” Dueñas finished. “It was no coincidence.”
