    SCCL: advancement scenarios; quarterfinal places at stake

    MIAMI – The last week of group-stage play in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions promises to be one of the most dramatic ever, with five of the eight groups yet to be decided.

    Arabe Unido, New York Red Bulls and Vancouver Whitecaps have already secured quarterfinal berths, but which other sides will join the trio? 

    Here’s a group-by-group breakdown of all the advancement scenarios:

    Group A (Thursday, October 20: Pumas v DirecTV W Connection)
    - If second-place Pumas (2W-0D-1L, 6 points) wins or draws against already-eliminated DirecTV W Connection (0-1-2, 1), Pumas will advance to the quarterfinals.
    - If DirecTV W Connection defeats Pumas, first-place Honduras Progeso (2-1-1, 7) will advance to the quarterfinals.   

    Group B (Wednesday, October 19: Portland Timbers v Saprissa)
    - If first-place Saprissa (2-1-0, 7) wins or draws against scond-place Portland Timbers (2-0-1, 6), Saprissa will advance to the quarterfinals.
    - If Portland Timbers defeat Saprissa, Portland Timbers will advance to the quarterfinals.

    Group C (Wednesday, October 19: Sporting Kansas City v Central FC)
    - First-place Vancouver Whitecaps (4-0-0, 12) have already earned a quarterfinal berth.

    Group D (Tuesday, October 18: Arabe Unido v Don Bosco)
    - First-place Arabe Unido (3-0-0, 9) has already earned a quarterfinal berth.

    Group E (Wednesday, October 19: Olimpia v Pachuca)
    - If first-place Pachuca (3-0-0, 9) wins, draws or loses by one goal against second-place Olimpia (2-0-1, 6), Pachuca will advance to the quarterfinals.
    - If Olimpia defeats Pachuca by two goals or more, Olimpia will advance to the quarterfinals. 

    Group F (Tuesday, October 18: Antigua GFC v Alianza)
    - First-place New York Red Bulls (2-2-0, 8) have already earned a quarterfinal berth.

    Group G (Tuesday, October 18: Tigres v Herediano)
    - If first-place Tigres (2-0-1, 6) wins or draws against second-place Herediano (1-1-1, 4), Tigres will advances to the quarterfinals.
    - If Herediano defeats Tigres, Herediano will advance to the quarterfinals.

    Group H (Thursday, October 20: Suchitepequez v FC Dallas)
    - If first-place FC Dallas (1-2-0, 5) wins or draw against second-place Suchitepequez (1-2-0, 5), FC Dallas will advance to the quarterfinals.
    - If Suchitepequez defeats FC Dallas, Suchitepequez will advance to the quarterfinals.
