MEXICO CITY – Pumas has appeared in three previous editions of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League and, in each one of them, it has progressed to the quarterfinals.

The Liga MX side currently sits second in Group A -- trailing Honduras Progreso by a single point – but with a win or draw against visiting DirecTV W Connection on Thursday, it will progress once again.

With his team unbeaten at home in five straight SCCL games (4W-1D-0L), goalkeeper Angel Saldivar is looking forward to taking on the Savonetta Boys at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario.

"We are strong at home,” said the 26-year-old, who has played in all three group matches. “We want to give joy to the fans by qualifying for the next round of this tournament. Our dream is to play in a Club World Cup.”

In three previous SCCL meetings between them, Pumas holds a 2-0 advantage in wins over W Connection. When they squared off in Mexico City in 2009, UNAM rallied from a one-goal deficit on strikes by current head coach Juan Francisco Palencia and Oscar Rojas 86.

On August 3, Pumas posted a 4-2 win at W Connection as Luis Quintana, Jose Van Rankin, Jose Alfonso Nieto and Omar Islas each got on the scoresheet.

"We have enthusiasm to play and show what we're made of,” Saldivar finished. “We know the opponent and, based on the first game against them, what it’s going to be like facing them.”

UNAM has won the CONCACAF Champions Cup three times, but is searching for its first SCCL title.
