PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago – Slightly more than a month after he was named Trinidad & Tobago head coach, Tom Saintfiet informed the Trinidad & Tobago Football Association on Tuesday night his resignation from the post.

The announcement came just days after the Soca Warriors were eliminated from 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying contention, when it dropped a 4-3 decision to Haiti in the last match of the 2016/17 Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean fifth-place playoff. That result left the Trinidadians at the bottom of the three-team table, meaning they will miss out on Gold Cup participation for the first time since 2011.

Saintfiet, 43, replaced Stephen Hart last month and compiled a 1W-0D-3L record in his short tenure.

With no further Caribbean Cup or Gold Cup activity in 2017, T&T will be able to focus on the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It currently occupies fifth place on goal difference ahead of the United States (-4 to -5). Neither side has earned a point after two matches.
