SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – John Jairo Ruiz has received a call up to Costa Rica for next week’s friendly against visiting Paraguay, head coach Jorge Luis Pinto announced Thursday.

The 20-year-old forward plays for Lille in France and achieved nororiety for scoring three goals in four matches at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Pinto named 21 other players to the squad, including two from CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinalist Alajuelense – goalkeeper Patrick Pemberton and defender Jose Salvatierra.

"Undoubtedly, this list does not represent what the complete call to World Cup will be, but we are looking at a few alternatives,” said Pinto.  “Similarly we want to continue the process of with some players, but this does not mean that they have a fixed place at the World Cup.”

Costa Rica’s attack will be fortified with Real Salt Lake’s Alvaro Saborio, who scored a team-best eight goals in qualifying for Brazil 2014, as well as Joel Campbell.  The 21-year-old netted for Greece’s Olimpiacos in 2-0 UEFA Champions League win over Manchester United on Tuesday.
