GUATEMALA CITY - Rolando Blackburn scored three goals to power Comunicaciones to a 5-0 victory over Puerto Rico Bayamon FC in the Group 8 opener for both in the CONCACAF Champions League on Thursday night at the Estadio Cementos Progreso.

The Cremas struck three times within the opening 28 minutes to take command of the match. Agustin Herrera and Nelson Miranda also found the back of the net.

Participating in its fourth CCL, the four-time defending Guatemalan champion registered its largest-ever margin of victory in the competition, besting a 3-0 win over Caledonia AIA (Trinidad & Tobago) on August 29, 2013.

Bayamon, which qualified as the Caribbean Club Championship Group 1 winner, made its CCL debut.

    The difference in experience showed.

Jairo Arreola took advantage of gaps on the left side, helping his team take control of a game played in wet conditions.

Blackburn, a Panamanian international striker, gave the host a 1-0 lead as he slotted Arreola's left-wing feed into the net at the far post in the 10th minute.

Comunicaciones doubled the advantage in the 21st minute, when Herrera redirected an Arreola cross from the left flank past goalkeeper Maximiliano Torlacoff.

Seven minutes later, Blackburn scored his second of the night.  Jose Contreras penetrated deep into the left side of the penalty area and delivered a cross to Blackburn, who headed the ball home at the far post for a commanding 3-0 advantage.

In the 48th minute, Blackburn completed his hat-trick by heading in a corner kick from close range past Torlacoff for a four-goal margin.

Miranda, a second-half substitute, closed out the scoring with a header from the left side two minutes into stoppage time.

The Puerto Ricans came close in the 89th minute, but goalkeeper David Guerra did well to parry a dangerous free kick.

Group 8 resumes on August 19 with a meeting between Puerto Rico Bayamon and host Club America at the Estadio Azteca.
