HEREDIA, Costa Rica – Herediano announced Thursday that it has acquired Jose Alfonso Nieto on a year-long loan from Mexico’s Pumas.

The 25-year-old attacker didn’t make any appearances during the 2016 Liga MX Apertura season, but did score three goals in four 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League outings as UNAM sealed a place in next year’s quarterfinals against Tigres.

Nieto has been involved with Pumas’ first team since 2009/10, scoring one goal in 32 regular-season games.  He has taken part in three SCCL campaigns, playing in nine matches, with all three of his goals being scored this year.

Herediano completed the 2016 Costa Rican Invierno by finishing as runner-up to Saprissa in both the regular-season and Quadrangular standings, while Pumas was eliminated from the Apertura playoffs by Tigres in the quarterfinals, 7-2 on aggregate.
