PANAMA CITY, Panama – After a loss at Peru in an international friendly last Wednesday, Panama returned to training Monday with an August 20 encounter against Cuba on the horizon.

Head coach Hernan Dario Gomez called in 24 domestic-based players, who will work together for three days over each of the next two weeks.

The camp marks the return of Arabe Unido midfielder Amilcar Henriquez, 30, who last played for the Canaleros in friendlies against Serbia and Brazil on May 31 and June 3, respectively.

Though Gomez extended invitations mostly to young players, he also included those with previous senior team experience, such as Alex Rodríguez, Juan De Gracia, Kevin Melgar and Armando Polo.

In the setback to the Peruvians, midfielder Miguel Camargo and forward Alfredo Stephens of 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League participant Chorrillo FC, were among numerous players to make their full international debuts.

Panama is preparing for the upcoming Copa Centroamericana, which it will open against defending champion Costa Rica on September 7 in Dallas, Texas.
