Panama int’l Stephens leaves Chorrillo FC for Santa Clara

Chorrillo FC Alfredo Stephens (pictured) has played in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League and the Scotiabank CONCACAF League.

PANAMA CITY, Panama – Recently-crowned Panamanian champion Chorrillo FC announced Tuesday that forward Alfredo Stephens is leaving the club for Portugal’s Santa Clara.

The 23-year-old Panama international was key in the Fiebre Amarilla’s 5-1 win over Arabe Unido in the 2017 Apertura final on December 2, striking for the game’s first two goals within the opening 27 minutes.

It was a banner season for Stephens, who scored one goal in four games during the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League (1-0 win at Honduras Progreso on August 9).

He also appeared in three matches for Panama (all friendlies), with his only goal coming in a 5-0 win over host Grenada on October 24.

Stephens’ only previous experience in Europe was during the 2015/16 season, when he netted once in 17 outings for Slovakia’s DAC 1904.

Santa Clara currently occupies sixth in the Portuguese second-division table with an 8W-4D-6L record, six points behind first-place Porto II.
