Northern United Victory Earns Quarterfinal Berth

Northern United Stars FC from St Lucia overturned a 2:0 deficit in the second leg of their game against Positive Vibes of US Virgin Islands with a 5:0 win to earn a place in the quarterfinal round of Caribbean qualifying to the 2006 CONCACAF Champion's Cup with a 5:2 aggregate victory.

First half goals from Francis Lastic (4 minutes), Francis McDonald (18') and Gideon Pamphile (24') gave the visiting Northern United side a 3:0 advantage at the break, and a slender 3:2 aggregate lead, leaving all to play for in the second half.

However, Positive Vibes could not find the back of the net despite their home-venue advantage and instead two goals from Kevin McPhee (55', 62') effectively put the series out of reach for the USVI team as Northern United took an unassailable 5:2 lead for a place in the next round.

The result completes the line-up for the quarterfinal stage of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2006 CONCACAF Champion's Cup.

The eventual Caribbean champion will join two clubs each from Mexico and USA, along with three Central American teams, in the 2006 CONCACAF Champion's Cup with the winner of that event taking on the best of the World in FIFA's 2006 Club World Championship.

Meanwhile, the current CONCACAF Club Champion, Costa Rica's Deportivo Saprissa, will face the world's best in the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship to be held in Japan in December this year.
