    Mexico unveils roster for Nigeria friendly

    MEXICO CITY – Head coach Miguel Herrera announced Thursday a 24-man roster for Mexico’s pre-World Cup friendly against Nigeria on March 5 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.

    The selection is highlighted by the presence of eight players currently based in Europe, including Javier Hernandez.  The Manchester United forward appeared in a team-high 16 World Cup qualifiers on the road to Brazil 2014.

    Club America (2013 Clausura) and Leon (2013 Apertura) – the last two Liga MX champions -- are well represented, providing six and four players, respectively.

    The match will also mark the return of midfielder Andres Guardado, who earned a call-up after his recent loan to Bayer Leverkusen from Valencia.

    Mexico, which is coming off a 4-0 win over Korea Republic in January, leads the all-time series against Nigeria with a win and three draws in four previous meetings.  Their last encounter ended in a 2-2 stalemate on May 31, 2013, in Houston, Texas.
