SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Mexico (3W-0D-0L, 9 points) edged Honduras, 1-0, on Thursday at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa to finish first in Group A at the 2017 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

The result extended the Tricolor’s unbeaten streak in the competition to 20 games.

In a game that pitted two sides already assured of advancement, Ronaldo Cisneros scored the only goal – his tournament-best fifth – in the 67th minute.

The Mexicans kept alive a left-sided corner kick played into the box by Uriel Antuna, with Joaquin Esquivel eventually lifting the ball from the right side of the box to the left post, where Cisneros was positioned to head it down and then over goalkeeper Michael Perello,

Honduras (2-0-1, 6) had the opportunity to open the scoring in the 27th minute after Edson Alvarez was whistled for a handball in the box, but Rembandt Flores’ ensuing penalty kick was saved by goalkeeper Jose Hernandez.

In the 77th minute, the Mexican custodian came up big again, making a diving save off Jorge Alvarez’s effort from the top of the box.

Mexico has yet to concede a goal in three games, while Honduras has allowed only two.
