DUBAI, UAE – When Mexico faces Brazil on Friday in a FIFA U-17 World Cup quarterfinal encounter, head coach Raul Gutierrez knows that one of the two outstanding sides will be eliminated from contention.

Regardless of the match-up’s appealing nature, he does not want his team’s run to a second straight crown to end at Rashid Stadium.

“I think it will be an attractive game for all , two great teams get together who play good football and that is going to make for a competitive match,” said Gutierrez.

Brazil has scored 18 goals in four tournament outings.  That kind of offensive output would worry most teams, but Gutierrez is confident that his defense up to the task.  After conceding six goals in its opener against Nigeria, Mexico has allowed only one in the following three games.

“Having the respect that one must have for a team that has scored that quantity of goals, we are going to continue our line of work,” the 45-year-old commented.  “We have had three good games and we plan to keep improving this.”

Above all, the former Club America defender says that he very much respects what Brazil represents in the world of football.

“I think that always when talking about Brazil, it is to talk about a footballing tradition that has to be respected, it has to be taken into account, but matches are played on the field and deserve to be won, so we are going to continue with that line,” concluded Gutierrez.

“We know that tomorrow’s match is going to be hard and may the best win.”
