GROS ISLET, St. Lucia – Darren Mattocks scored two goals to propel Jamaica past host St Lucia 5-0 in an international friendly on Thursday at Beausejour Stadium.

The Vancouver Whitecaps forward netted in the 18th and 69th minutes, helping the Reggae Boyz complete a sweep of their eastern Caribbean tour.

On Sunday, Mattocks struck for his first international tally in a 2-0 win at Barbados.

"These wins are important,” said Jamaica head coach Winfried Schafer.  “It's our first step on the road.

“The team pressed and put St. Lucia under pressure.”

The Jamaicans got single goals from 17-year-old Michael Seaton (16’), Garath McCleary (35’) and substitute Deshorn Brown (82’), who also scored against the Bajans.

St Lucia head coach Francis Lastic was quick to credit his opponent.

“We were beaten by a well-organized Jamaica team,” commented Lastic.  “We are a team in a rebuilding stage, and we have a set of young players moving forward, and as the game went on I saw some positives.”

Jamaica is scheduled to return to action in a friendly against Serbia on May 26 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
