Layun lifts Mexico past Bolivia

COMMERCE CITY, Colorado – Miguel Layun scored in the first half and Mexico defeated Bolivia 1-0 on Tuesday in a friendly international at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The Club America star netted in the 18th minute, lashing in a right-footed shot from 10-yards out after Erick Torres’ initial attempt off a combination with Javier Orozco was blocked by goalkeeper Daniel Vaca.

The Mexicans are now unbeaten in five of their last six matches and now idle until October 9, when they host Honduras in Tuxtla Gutierrez. 

Bolivia was reduced to 10 players when Ramiro Ballivian was sent off the in 89th minute.  Despite being down a man, it nearly equalized, but Ronaldo Eguino’s header hit the right post. 

Mexico extended its winning streak against Bolivia to eight games and is 9-1-1 all-time against the South Americans.
