MEXICO CITY – Miguel Layun scored two goals and Mexico defeated Israel 3-0 on Wednesday in a World Cup warm-up match at the Estadio Azteca.

The win extended the Tricolor’s unbeaten streak to six in FIFA-recognized internationals, including three straight wins in Mexico City.

In appreciation of his contributions to Mexican football, Cuauhtemoc Blanco was given a place in the starting line-up and displayed many of the same traits that earned him 120 caps.  The 41-year-old left the game in the 38th minute for Raul Jimenez.

Five minutes later, Layun struck for his first goal.  Cutting inside from the left, the 25-year-old defender unleashed an unexpected right-footed shot from 25-yards that Israel goalkeeper Ariel Harush misplayed and found the back of the net.

Layun, who has nine career goals in the Mexican top flight, made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute.  Once again, the Club America star fired a right-footed effort from 29 yards that Harush dove it his left to get a hand on.  The ball, however, floated in an unusual fashion backwards towards the left post and crossed over the line.

Marco Fabian closed the host’s goal account with five minutes left in normal time, hammering home from 18-yards-out after a Javier Hernandez pass took a fortuitous deflection off an Israeli defender.

Mexico now travels to the United States for three more friendlies, starting with one against Ecuador on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
