GOLDEN VALLEY, Minnesota -- Jamaica international Jermaine Taylor signed Tuesday with Major League Soccer expansion club Minnesota United FC.

The 32-year-old defender spent the 2016 season with the Portland Timbers, appearing in 23 MLS games and two in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.  He previously played in the Jamaican National Premier League with Harbour View -- winning a domestic title (2007) and a Caribbean Club Championship crown (2004) -- and St. George’s SC, before signing with the Houston Dynamo in 2011.

Taylor helped Houston to consecutive Eastern Conference titles in his first two seasons. He made 106 appearances with the Dynamo and tallied his lone MLS goal during the 2012 season.

With Jamaica, Taylor has earned 84 caps since making his international debut in 2004.  He has helped the Reggae Boyz win three Caribbean Cups (2005, 2010, 2014), converting a vital penalty kick to secure the 2014 championship.  Taylor has also competed in the three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2005, 2011, 2015) and a pair of Copa Americas (2015, 2016).

Jamaica will contest the 2016/17 Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean semifinals in June and has booked a ticket to July’s Gold Cup.
