MONCTON, Canada – Lindsey Horan struck for a first-half brace to help lead the United States to a 3-0 victory over China in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at Moncton Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

As a result of the win, the defending champion finished second in Group B and secured a knockout-stage berth with six points.  Germany, which rallied from a halftime deficit to top Brazil 5-1 in Montreal, won the group with seven points.

In Saturday’s quarterfinal matches, the Americans will face the winner of Group A in Toronto, while Germany meets the Group A runner-up in Edmonton.

Horan opened her account in the 19th minute, hammering a shot off the crossbar and over the goal line from eight-yards out.

The Paris Saint-German forward, 20, doubled the advantage in the 38th minute with her third goal in two games.  After a Chinese defender knocked down an Andi Sullivan corner kick, Horan sent it in from 10 yards.

On a quick counterattack, Horan turned playmaker four minutes into the second half.  She delivered a low cross from the right that Rose Lavelle finished from 13-yards out to give the CONCACAF champion a commanding 3-0 lead.

Knowing a win would ensure advancement, the U.S. pushed the tempo from the opening whistle and could have added even more goals.

Mallory Pugh saw efforts hit the post twice early, while Stephanie Amack headed off the crossbar on the half-hour mark.
