    Honduras int’l Hernandez suffers injury

    SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Honduras international Eddie Hernandez underwent surgery Sunday for a fractured right cheek suffered in a collision with Marathon Caue Fernandes in a 2017 Honduran Apertura match a day earlier.

    It is unknown if the Marathon forward will be available to play for the Catrachos in next month’s intercontinental playoff against Australia with a spot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup at stake.

    Hernandez, 26, scored two goals in five CONCACAF qualifiers for Russia 2018. He was also named to the 2017 Copa Centroamericana’s Best XI, netting a tournament-best three goals in helping Honduras to the title.
