HEREDIA, Costa Rica – After finishing the 2017 Costa Rican Invierno regular season undefeated with a 16W-6D-0L record, Herediano is looking to return to winning ways following last weekend’s 1-0 loss at Perez Zeledon in the first match of the six-game Quadrangular.

The defending champion Florenses host Saprissa on Sunday at the Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero.

“If we worked well during the whole year, there’s no reason for us to stress,” said Herediano head coach Hernan Medford.  “The objectives are intact despite the loss to Perez Zeledon.  We are calm and you have to give credit to the opponent.  They played a good game.

“Sunday is a final, a party, a dance.  I feel like the stadium will be full and the fans trust in the team because together we will go forward.”

In the Invierno, the sides played to a pair of 1-1 draws.  They also met in the 2017 Verano final, with Herediano lifting the trophy, 5-0 on aggregate.

Medford, however, has no desire to relive the past or focus overly on Saprissa.

“I don’t speak about the opponent,” he finished.  “The problems that Saprissa have are theirs.  It’s clear that I have to analyze where they are most vulnerable, but I speak to my players and the coaching staff analyzes the opponent, but I won’t publicly.  Saprissa is a team to respect.”

Both Herediano and Saprissa will compete in the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
