    Saprissa, Herediano earns Costa Rican Quadrangular wins

    HEREDIA, Costa Rica – Herediano took a big step forward in its quest to finish first in the 2017 Costa Rican Verano Quadrangular, but hope remains alive for Limon, defending champion Saprissa and Santos.

    Santos 1, Herediano 2
    Kenny Cunningham 90’ / Elias Aguilar 27’; Heyreel Saravia 37’

    - Herediano struck twice in the first half to claim a big three points at the Estadio Ebal Rodriguez in Guapiles. Elias Aguilar slipped a 27th-minute free kick under the Santos wall, while Heyreel Saravia scored what would be the game-winner in the 37th minute by powering in a loose ball.
    - Kenny Cunningham scored the lone Santos goal via a 90th-minute header.
    - Herediano sits first in the Quadrangular with eight points, three points ahead of second-place Santos.
    - Both teams ended the match short-handed. Santos finished with eight men after expulsions to Jesus Camacho, Edder Solorzano and Wilmer Azofeifa. Herediano lost Jose Sanchez to a sending off.


    Saprissa 4, Limon 1
    Fabrizio Ronchetti 5’, 15’ pen; Daniel Colindres 22’; Julio Cascante 56 / Yuaycell Wright 80’

    - Three goals in the first half hour, including a Fabrizio Ronchetti brace, lifted Saprissa over Limon on at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.
    - Ronchetti redirected in an early free kick, before converting a penalty to give Saprissa a 2-0 lead.
    - The advantage bulged to 4-0 thanks to a strong Daniel Colindres right-footer and Julio Cascante’s header off a corner kick.
    - Limon’s lone goal came in the 80th minute, when Yuaycell Wright took advantage of a loose ball in the Saprissa area and swept in a right-footed shot.
    - Saprissa is third in the Qudrangular table with five points, while Limon is fourth on three.
