Grupoline Futsal slips past Soyapango for spot in Futsal final

Grupoline Futsal’s Juan Cordero (white jersey) celebrates after scoring against Soyapango FC in the CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship semifinals on August 25, 2017, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Grupoline Futsal scored the first three goals and then held off a fierce rally to earn a 3-2 win over Soyapango FC in the 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship semifinals on Friday night at the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazan.

The Costa Rican champion will meet the winner of Utah Elite Futsal-Habana in Saturday’s final, while Soyapango will compete in the match for third place.

Juan Cordero gave Grupoline a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute, when he fired a right-footed shot underneath goalkeeper Emerson from the right side.

In the 18th minute, Diego Zuñiga did the same -- but with his left foot -- off a feed from Milinton Tijerino to make 2-0.

Tijerino also assisted on Cordero’s second goal two minutes into the second half, but Soyapango launched a comeback.

Salvador Aguilar netted in the 36th minute (assisted by David Sandoval) and converted a 38th-minute penalty kick, but Soyapango could find the equalizer before the final whistle was blown.
