    Grenada league season starts Saturday

ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada - Another league season is set to kick off this weekend in Grenada, with two matches slated for Saturday.

This campaign will feature a number of important improvements over past years, thanks to the endeavors of the Grenada Football Association (GFA) to strengthen the local league. Among other advances to be debuted this weekend will be the use of match commissioners for all Premier League encounters, as well as regular weekend programming in stadiums specifically designated for high level competition.

Action begins on Saturday evening when Hard Rock FC - the 2011 and 2012 national champion - takes on newly promoted Happy Hill FC at 6 PM local time. GFA President Cheney Joseph will be on hand to open the program with a series of remarks to kick off what is expected to be a carnival atmosphere at the opener.

This year promises to be a big one all around for Grenadian football, with expanded sponsorship and media coverage already secured through the efforts of the FA and League officials. Digicel has been confirmed as the sponsor for this year's league competition, with others potentially set to come on board.

"The GFA is moving in the right direction," said Senator Ray Roberts, head of the GFA's Media & Public Relations Committee. "What we must do is to engage those media houses and the private sector, and ensure they work closely with the GFA in promoting the development of football on the island."

Through the further work of the Grenada FA, several other sponsors have also been secured for individual clubs, and a weekly football-oriented broadcast hosted by Kitaka Mawuto has been programmed on a local radio station.
