    Futsal: Group B Recap (Aug. 22, 2017)

    TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Sidekicks and Grupo Line Futsal earned Group B wins in the 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship on Tuesday at the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazan.

    Here’s a look at the action:

    Sidekicks (Mexico) 8, Sporting Outlaws FC (Canada) 6

    In the highest scoring match of the competition thus far, Sidekicks (1W-0D-1L, 3 points) jumped out to 3-0 lead and withstood a mighty challenge from Sporting Outlaws FC (0-0-2, 0), which is still searching for its first points.

    Eddie Sanchez opened the scoring in the second minute with the first of his three goals and then Eder Giorgana (4’, 17’) followed with two straight tallies.

    Sporting Outlaws were undaunted, inching to within 3-2 before the break thanks to a pair of strikes by Aldair Chavez Melendez (18’, 19’).

    The second half was tightly contested, with Diya Abdi (23’, 29’, 33’, 36’) striking for four goals and eventually giving Sporting a 6-5 lead.

    Sidekicks, however, closed out the match with three consecutive goals.  Sanchez completed his hat-trick to level the score at 6-6.  Luis Magana (38’, 39’) hit the back of the net twice late to seal the thrilling triumph.

    Habana (Cuba) 3, Grupo Line Futsal (Costa Rica) 5

    Alejandro Paniagua scored two goals and Grupo Line Futsal improved to 2-0-0 with a 5-3 win over Habana.

    The Costa Rican power took a 4-0 lead, before Habana responded through Feice Marino (19’) shortly before halftime.

    In a second half that was tightly contested, Paniagua put Grupo Line Futsal ahead 5-1 in the 37th minute.

    Habana netted twice late (Daniel Hernandez 38’; Andy Baquero 40’), but time elapsed on its comeback bid.

    Diego Zuñiga (7’), Victor Fonsea (9’) and Isaias Mora (19’) also scored in a winning effort.

    Next Up in Group B on Wednesday (all times local): Habana meets Sporting Outlaws idekicks (12:30 p.m.), while Grupo Line Futsal squares off against Sidekicks (5:30 p.m.).
