    Futsal: Group A Recap (Aug. 23, 2017)

Junior Alencar (white jersey) scored in Elite Futsal’s win over host UPNFM in the CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship on August 23, 2017, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Elite Futsal and Soyapango FC both registered Group A wins Wednesday to progress to the 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship semifinals.

Here’s a look at the Group A action from the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazan:

Soyapango FC (El Salvador) 6, FAX Futsal (Guadeloupe) 2

Josue Garcia scored a goal in each half and Soyapango FC (2W-0D-1L, 6 points) topped FAX Futsal (0-0-3, 0), 6-2.  The Salvadoran side won for the second time in three Group A games and advanced to the semifinals after Elite Futsal defeated UPNFM later in the evening.

Garcia (17’, 26’) gave Soyapango leads of 3-1 and 5-2, taking his tournament total to five goals.

After Rodrigo Contreras (12’) put Soyapango ahead 1-0, Mickael Burlet (13’) equalized for FAX Futsal, which only got as close as one goal (3-2) afterwards thanks to an Alan Zaire (22’) strike to open the second half.

Mario Flores (14’), David Sandoval (25’) and Alan Solis (30’) also scored for Soyapango.

UPNFM (Honduras) 3, Elite Futsal (USA) 5

Elite Futsal (3-0-0, 9) scored the match’s first three goals and defeated host UPNFM (1-0-2, 3), 5-3.

Leonardo Oliveira (5’, 40’) struck first and last for the United States champion, while Junior Alencar (13’), Thiago Mendes Goncalves (19’) and Guilherme De Veiga (22’) added one each in a winning effort.

Alencar’s strike was a spectacular “Goal of the Tournament” candidate.  The 31-year-old Brazilian received a pass on the right wing and unleashed a shot with the outside of his left foot that eluded the attempted slide tackle of defender Noe David Yearwood and beat goalkeeper Jose Antonio Amador.

Carlos Alberto Montes (23’, 30’) netted a brace for eliminated UPNFM, which also got a goal from Erick Guzman (20’).

Elite topped the group with maximum points from three games, three more than second-place Soyapango.
