    Four advance in Under-20 Women's qualifying

    DEMERARA, Guyana - Four teams from two groups advanced this weekend to the second round of Caribbean qualifying for the 2012 CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship.

    In Group C, played in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the host and runner-up Puerto Rico topped three-team Group C with six points and three points, respectively.

    The Haitians completed group play on Friday with 4-0 win over St. Kitts & Nevis.Four different players accounted for the goals, including Yolande Merone, who scored in her second-straight game.

    Puerto Rico's lone win, 4-0, also came against St. Kitts & Nevis on Nov. 2.

    In four-team Group D, played in Demerara, Guyana, the host and the Dominican Republic, finished first and second, respectively.

    Guyana won each of its three matches, scoring 14 goals and conceding only one.Its offense was led by the outstanding play of Otesha Charles and Ashlee Savona, who combined to score seven goals.

    Yaqueisi Nunez proved to be the Dominican Republic's star performer. The 17-year-old striker struck for nine goals over three games, including five in a 9-1 win over Antigua and Barbuda on Nov. 4.

    Guyana clinched the group title with a 2-1 over the Dominican Republic on Sunday.Justine Rodrigues snapped a 1-1 stalemate with a dramatic 90th minute winner.

    The eight Caribbean qualifying survivors -- Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago -- will play in two second-round groups next month with the group winners qualifying for the CONCACAF finals.
