    FIFA U-20 WWC draw reveals CONCACAF opposition

    MONTREAL, Canada -- The opposition for CONCACAF’s four representatives at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup was determined Saturday during the Official Draw at Montreal’s Windsor Hotel.

    The ceremony was conducted by Tatjana Haenni, FIFA’s Head of Women’s Competitions, and assistants Sylvie Beliveau, Janine Helland and Clare Rustad.

    The highlighted pairing came from Group B, which will see a rematch of the 2012 final, when the defending champion United States and Germany meet on August 5 in Edmonton.  The Americans, who won the 2014 CONCACAF title in January, will also face Brazil and China.

    Host Canada will meet Group A opponent Ghana in the tournament opener on August 5 at Toronto’s BMO Field.  Finland and Korea DPR round out the quartet.

    In Group C, Mexico will square off against England, Korea Republic and Nigeria.

    Costa Rica joins New Zealand, Paraguay and France in Group D.

    The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be played in four Canadian cities - Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal and Toronto - August 5-24, 2014.

    In 2002, Canada hosted the first-ever U-20 Women’s World Cup, which was originally played as an under-19 competition.  A crowd of 47,784 at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium witnessed the U.S. defeat Canada 1-0 after extra time in the final.
