    FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup opens Thursday in the Bahamas

    NASSAU, Bahamas – The 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is set to launch Thursday at the National Beach Soccer Arena with four games, including a pair involving CONCACAF sides 

    Mexico will face Group B rival Iran (3:30 p.m. ET) in the curtain raiser, while the host Bahamas will conclude the evening against Switzerland (8:00 p.m. ET) in Group A. 

    CONCACAF champion Panama will kick-off its Group C schedule against defending champion Portugal on Friday (5:00 p.m. ET). 

    This will be the first time in nine Beach Soccer World Cup editions that the competition will be held in the CONCACAF region.  It was previously organized three times in South America (Brazil: 2005, 2006, 2007), three times in Europe (France: 2008; Italy: 2011; Portugal: 2015), and once each in Asia (United Arab Emirates: 2009) and Oceania (Tahiti: 2013). 

    The final will be contested on May 7.
