GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Cruz Azul has acquired Mexican international Marco Fabian on a year-long loan from Guadalajara after an agreement between the Liga MX sides was announced on Thursday.

The 24-year-old joins the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinalist after more than five years in the Mexican first division with Chivas, where he played in 162 games and scored 38 goals.

Fabian was part of Mexico’s gold medal winning squad at the 2012 Olympic Football Tournament, appearing in all six games and netting in the Tricolor’s 3-1 semifinal win over Japan.

In 2013, he scored his first international goal for Mexico in a 1-0 friendly win over Denmark and struck three times in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The attacking midfielder has three career CONCACAF Champions League goals, all of them in Guadalajara’s 4-0 win over DIRECTV W Connection on August 29, 2012.

Cruz Azul will meet the USA’s Sporting Kansas City in the CCL quarterfinals next year.
