    El Salvador/Venezuela to meet in Beach Soccer friendly

    SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador -- El Salvador will complete a memorable year in its beach soccer history, when it hosts Venezuela in a friendly on Thursday.

     

    The South American side arrived Tuesday and is training on El Salvador's Costa del Sol in advance of the game, which will be played at Anfiteatro del Centro Internacional de Ferias y Convenciones.Its roster consistsentirely of the players who participated in the 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup held in Ravenna, Italy, last September.

     

    This year, not only did El Salvador record its first-ever points at the finals of a Beach Soccer World Cup in three tries, it captured fourth place.After posting wins over Oman and Argentina in the Group Stage, the Cuscatlecos got past Italy 6-5 in the quarterfinals before dropping a 7-3 semifinal decision to eventual-champion Russia.It then lost3-2 to Portugal in the third-place match.

     

    Franklin Velasquez, who scored a team-high nine goals at the World Cup, will reportedly miss the game due to a knee injury that he suffered during a recent exhibition game.
