MAZATENANGO, Guatemala – El Salvador international Kevin Santamaria was loaned from Salvadoran side Santa Tecla to Guatemala’s Suchitepequez, it was announced Thursday.

The clubs agreed on a deal that will see the midfielder join the Venados through the upcoming 2014 Clausura with an option to make the move permanent after the season’s completion.

Santamaria, considered a rising star in Central America, is coming off a successful Apertura campaign in which he scored six goals in 17 matches.  Santa Tecla finished eighth in a 10-team table.

The 22-year-old also appeared in three of El Salvador’s four matches during its run to the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals this July.

Suchitepequez came in eighth place in the 2013 Guatemalan Apertura regular-season standings, but was only eliminated narrowly in the playoffs at the quarterfinal stage by eventual-champion Comunicaciones, 2-1 on aggregate.
