El Salvador qualifies for U-20 championship

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - American-born midfielder Dustin Corea scored his third goal in four games, tallying in the 62nd minute to earn El Salvador a 1-1 draw with Costa Rica on Saturday and a place in the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

Corea, a member of the U.S. U-17 team that qualified for the 2009 Under-17 World Cup, scored in the 62nd minute to give "Los Custcatlecos" a 2-1 aggregate victory and Central America's last berth in the 12-team field.

El Salvador joins host Guatemala, Honduras and Panama in the CONCACAF finals April 3-17 along with automatic qualifiers Canada, Mexico and the United States from North America. Cuba, Guadeloupe and Jamaica already have qualified with two berths still undecided in the Caribbean.

Corea gave El Salvador a 1-0 victory with a second-minute goal in the first leg of its two-leg playoff against Costa Rica on December 11 in Metapan, El Salvador.

He also scored the final goal in a 6-1 victory over Belize in Central American group play on December 1.

Costa Rica outshot El Salvador 17-10 in a game where both teams combined for 35 fouls.
