NEW YORK -- Only two days after helping El Salvador qualify for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Andres Flores re-signed with the New York Cosmos on Tuesday.

Flores, along with most of the team's roster, was released late last year as the two-time defending North American Soccer League champion experienced financial challenges. With new ownership in place, the club is moving forward with rebuilding the squad.

“I’m very happy to be back at the Cosmos," said Flores. "This is a historic club and it means a lot to be part of it."

The 26-year-old midfielder was signed on loan from Salvadoran side Turin-FESA in July 2014, before the Cosmos bought out his contract that December.

In 2016, Flores scored four goals and registered six assists in 24 games.

“Andres had a wonderful season last year,” remarked Cosmos head coach and sporting director Giovanni Savarese. “He is a talented young player who has consistently shown his quality and versatility within our midfield. We are looking forward to his contributions this season."

On Sunday, Flores set up El Salvador’s lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Nicaragua, a result which secured the Cuscatlecos a third-place finish at the Copa Centroamericana. He sent Irvin Herrera a feed from the left wing and the forward knocked the ball past goalkeeper Diedrich Tellez in the 54th minute.

Flores has competed in three editions of both the CONCACAF Gold Cup (2011, 2013, 2015) and the Copa Centroamericana (2011, 2014, 2017). He has also played in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League with Isidro Metapan (2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2013/14) and spent a year on loan at Denmark’s Viborg (2012/13).
