BLAINE, Minnesota -- Minnesota United FC announced Wednesday it has signed El Salvador international Rafael Burgos on loan for the remainder of the North American Soccer League Fall Season.

The forward was joint-top scorer at the 2011 Copa Centroamericana with three goals.

"We’ve been looking for a forward for a while now and he fits the bill," said Minnesota United head coach Manny Lagos.  "We lack a little depth at the forward position, and we want to continue to make sure that we are a balanced squad."

The 26-year-old joins Minnesota from Austria’s SV Ried.  While in Europe, Burgos also spent time on loan in Hungary with Kecskeméti (2012-2013) and Győri ETO (2013).  He made 41 appearances and scored 10 goals combined for both teams.

Burgos also played in his native country with Alianza, Santa Tecla and UES, as well as with Petapa of Guatemala.

"He’s certainly done well for the El Salvador national team and he’s gone over to Europe and had some good success in Hungary," said Lagos. "He has a combination of skills we like. He works really hard and he looks to finish.”
