El Salvador falls to Switzerland in beach soccer

Action from the Copa Pilsener Futbol Playa match between Switzerland (white jersey) and host El Salvador on April 12, 2014.

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – Dejan Stankovic scored four goals and Noel Ott netted three as Switzerland (3 points) defeated El Salvador (3 points), 7-5, on the second matchday in the 2014 Copa Pilsener Futbol Playa.

The host went ahead 2-0 on goals by Agustin Ruiz and Frank Velasquez, before Stankovic struck for three in a row to give the Swiss a one-goal advantage midway through the second period.

Ott would make it 4-2, but the Cuscatlecos leveled the game on a free kick by Velasquez and Abraham Henriquez’s successfully converted penalty kick.

The third period was tightly contested until Stankovic broke the deadlock after 10 minutes.

Ott added two more to close Switzerland’s goal account, while Henriquez pulled one back late for the Salvadorans.

Earlier, Brazil got a trio of two-goal performances from Catarino, Rafinha and Mauricinho to cruise past England (0 points), 11-1.  The Brazilians, who will meet El Salvador on Sunday, are in first place with maximum points from two games.
