PANAMA CITY, Panama – Jonathan David scored two goals and previously-eliminated Canada (1W-0D-2L, 6 points) earned its only win of the 2017 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, topping Suriname, 2-0, on Friday at the Estadio Maracana.

The result means that Cuba (1-1-0, 4) will advance to the Classification Stage regardless of the outcome of its encounter against first-place Costa Rica (2-0-0, 6) later in the evening.  Suriname (0-1-2, 1) needed a victory to maintain any hope of progressing.

David gave Canada a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, when he dribbled down the middle of the field after receiving a pass from Jake Ruby, eluding a defender and then rounding goalkeeper Fhabrisio Saling before tapping the ball in from close range.

The 17-year-old doubled the advantage in the 56th minute, exploding past a pair defenders into the left side of the box and finding the back of the net from the outside of his right foot from eight-yards out.

Suriname finished the match with 10 players after Michiel Revales’ 78th-minute ejection.

Canada’s CU17 losing streak was snapped at five games.
