    Costa Rica wins; El Salvador progress to CONCACAF Women's U-20 Final Round

    The women's under-20 team of Costa Rica posted a 6:0 victory over the host Guatemala in the final day of the Union Centroamericana de Fútbol Triangular 2 on Saturday at the Estadio Cemento Progreso in Ciudad de Guatemala.

    Maciel Chacon and Vanessa Rojas scored twice, while Cristin Granados and Monica Salazar had one each for Costa Rica (1-1-0, 3 Points) which eliminated Guatemala (0-1-1, 1 Point) and allowed El Salvador (1-0-1, 4 Points) to progress to the 2006 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Final Round Qualification from 18-27 January in Cordoba and Veracruz, Mexico.

    In their first-ever Final Round appearance at a CONCACAF Women's competition, El Salvador will compete in the 2006 tournament in Group B alongside Jamaica, Surinam and USA. Meanwhile, Group A is composed of Canada, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago and the host Mexico.

    CONCACAF will announce in due course the schedule of matches and kickoff times for both venues.

    The winners and runners-up of each group will earn a place in the event's semifinals with the winners of those games earning a place as CONCACAF representatives at the 2006 FIFA Women's U-20 World Championship from 17 August - 3 September in Russia. CONCACAF's third spot in the FIFA event will be determined by a third-place play-off game between the two losing semifinalists.
