SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Costa Rica head coach Oscar Ramirez announced Friday a 23-man roster for international friendlies on the road against Spain (November 11) and Hungary (November 14).

The matches will be the Ticos’ last two of the year as they launch preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

"There are several objectives,” Ramirez said about the trip to Europe.  “One is to see several players who have been injured or who have not been regulars with their teams in order to observe the demeanor they have with the side.”

Two players with Spanish clubs – goalkeeper Dany Carvajal (Albacete) and midfielder Celso Borges (Deportivo La Coruña) – received call-ups, as did Portugal-based midfielder Bryan Ruiz, the 2016 CONCACAF Player of the Year.

Costa Rica’s last game in Europe came on October 9, 2016, when it earned a 4-3 win over host Russia.  Ruiz is the only player on the current roster to score in that encounter, giving the Central American power a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.
